The Jardin Anglais

This landscaped English-style garden was designed by Hutault, the architect who created the Grille d’Honneur gate, in 1810-1812. Although we know that Napoleon I was not especially keen on this type of garden, it was however very fashionable at the time, and followed a series of gardens located there since Francis I’s time. Planted with rare trees and scattered with statues, it also has an artificial river running through it.
